If you lie to dogs, they’ll stop trusting you. In order to test dogs’ responses to being repeatedly tricked by humans, researchers pointed them towards containers of food. Once they began pointing at empty containers, the dogs became so distrusting that they wouldn’t respond when the humans pointed to food again. Source
