Description

Invalidation is when you tell someone that his or her feelings are not valid—or that they are wrong. For example, "That's nothing to get upset about!" "Don't be mad; he didn't mean it." Being invalidated has been linked to using self-harm and self-injury to deal with painful feelings and the extra distress caused by the invalidation.
